How do I play?
Put your thumb on the glowing spot and keep it there. The timer runs for as long as you hold. Lift off, drift outside the edge, follow a decoy, or arrive too late after the spot relocates, and the run is over.
My run ended and I never lifted my thumb. What happened?
One of three things. The spot relocated and you got there too late, you drifted past its edge, or you followed a decoy. GLITCH will happily tell you the wrong one is real. NOVA never lies, so when the two of them disagree, believe NOVA.
How do revives work?
You get one free revive every 24 hours. It does not stack, so use it or lose it. Daily streaks pay bonus revives, and you can buy packs if you want more. Any single run is capped at three revives for everyone, so the leaderboard stays a contest of skill.
Do I have to sign in to Game Center?
No. Every level plays the same without it, and without it your times stay on your phone. If your iPhone is already signed in to Game Center, the game connects to it when it opens, as Apple asks games to, so Game Center challenges and activities can find you. Your times go to Apple's own Game Center leaderboards only once you say yes: USE GAME CENTER or SIGN IN TO GAME CENTER, a Game Center challenge or activity, or joining the grid. NEON HOLD never shows the sign in screen unless you tap for it, and nothing goes on the NEON HOLD grid until you tap JOIN THE GLOBAL GRID. You can leave the grid, which takes your name and time off it, or stop the game using Game Center at all, in Settings. Signing out of Game Center itself is done in the iOS Settings app, because no app can do that for you.
Someone sent me an invite code. Where do I put it?
Open the Vault in the game and tap Redeem. A working code banks 5 revives. Codes pay out for players who are new to NEON HOLD, and the friend who sent it gets 5 revives of their own once you finish your first run. Redeeming also puts the two of you on each other’s friends boards.
Can I redeem a second code from another friend?
No. An invite is a welcome for arriving, so it is one per player, for life. You can still add each other from the Friends tab, which needs no code at all.
I bought revives and they did not arrive.
Purchases are processed entirely by Apple. Reopen the game while online and they usually land within a minute. If they do not, write to nova@neonhold.com with the date and the pack you bought and we will fix it by hand.
What data do you collect?
No account, no email address, no contacts and no location, and nothing public until you ask for it. From the first launch the app keeps an anonymous record for your install on our server, under a placeholder name, so revives, streaks and invites work. The global grid is opt in: JOIN THE GLOBAL GRID publishes a display name (your Game Center alias), a country flag and a best score. If you allow notifications, the app gives our server the push token Apple issues, so news from friends can reach you with the app closed. Invites and challenges are links you share yourself, so we never see an address or a contact list. Search only finds players on the grid. You can erase all of it from inside the app, in Settings under ABOUT & PRIVACY.
